WE THE PEOPLE HOSTS HYBRID CEREMONY FOR THE RIGHTS ACADEMY COHORT 3.O
The Rights Academy hosted a combined graduation and inauguration ceremony to celebrate the achievements of its recently concluded cohort and welcomed the third cohort of aspiring activists.
The Rights Academy is a learning institution dedicated to educating and empowering individuals on human rights and ecological rights.
Each year, it selects a cohort of 15 participants for a three-month comprehensive curriculum, with graduates going on to implement projects in these critical areas.
The event kicked off with a stirring speech from Executive Director Ken Henshaw, who highlighted the Academy’s mission and the significant impacts of its alumni, now active champions in human and environmental rights advocacy. He called on the new cohort to passionately address the pressing challenges of today.
Grace Appolos, the Academy Coordinator, further enriched the event by linking personal stories to the broader theme of faith and activism. Her insights deeply resonated with the attendees, sparking a renewed zeal for advocacy among both the graduating and incoming cohorts.
The graduates took center stage with speeches and presentations that showcased their development and passion. Notably, valedictorian Emily Omini delivered a captivating poem titled “Who Told You So,” reflecting the creative spirit fostered by the Rights Academy.
The ceremony continued with Ken Henshaw presenting certificates to the graduates. The event, attended by 41 individuals including students and faculty, concluded with music, dancing, and photo sessions, creating a perfect opportunity for new members to forge connections and strengthen their sense of community. The launch event not only celebrated the accomplishments of the graduating class but also inspired the incoming cohort as they begin their journey as activists
